Winston  Sibley
Winston Hall Sibley, 89, passed away Wednesday, March 25, 2020. Graveside services were held on Saturday, March 28, 2020, at Memory Hill Cemetery with the Rev. Mac Enfinger officiating. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at a later date.
Winston was born in Lauren, S.C. on April 3, 1930. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. Alan Bowen Sibley and Mrs. Winston Hall Sibley; a brother, John Adams Sibley, and his identical twin brother, Alan Bowen Sibley Jr. Win attended school in Greenville, S.C. and graduated from Clemson University with a degree in animal husbandry. Win loved Milledgeville and this was his home for the remainder of his life. He was co-owner of Sibley Farms, along with his brother Alan. Win made his mark on the world in a big way!! Win was active in many civic groups. He was involved with The American Red Cross on a state and county level. He was a leader with The Farm Bureau his entire adult life. He was a member of the Progressive Farmers Club and held office as president several times. Win was a Trustee of Georgia College & State University and served on the Foundation for two years. Win played a huge role at Georgia Military College and Prep School where he was an Honorary Alumni. The Sibley family built the Sibley-Cone library at GMC and Win continued to serve on the board for over 20 years. He continued to support GMC through the legacy of his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Win was active on the board at Century Bank and Trust and served as director for 20 years. Win was instrumental in the construction of The First United Methodist Church, where it is located today. He was an active member of The Georgia Forestry Association and served on the board.
Win enjoyed his work as a farmer and kept Sibley Farms as a working farm for many years with his twin brother. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed the game of golf to the fullest. He LOVED to travel, especially with his bride and their "Supper Club" group of friends. He had a love for learning new things and welcomed new experiences. Win was an amazing dancer and danced whenever the opportunity presented itself. He was such an intelligent, humble and generous man and was a gentle-man to all who were blessed to know him.
Survivors include: his wife, best friend and love of his life for 35 years, Dottie E. Sibley; children, Lynne Garrard Phillips (Terry), Wes Garrard (Ann); grandchildren, Gracie L. Strickland (Andrew), Ashely T. Garrard, Tyler Garrard; great-grandchilden, Gavin M. Gignilliat, Sawyer G. Strickland, Thomas W. Garrard and Arden D. Garrard; and his friend and companion for many years, John Mosley. Win will be greatly missed by his family, friends and community.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to GMC Foundation or First United Methodist Church in memory of Winston H. Sibley.
