Rev. Daniel Hodges Jr.
The Rev. Daniel Matthew Hodges, Jr. passed away Nov. 15, 2019 after being ill for several years. He is survived by his wife, Betti Hodges; daughter, Dana Barger (Curtis Barger); son, Kent; granddaughter, Christina Barger; grandsons, Grant Barger and Byrson Ward. Predeceasing him in death were his parents, Alva and Daniel Matthew Hodges, three brothers, and one sister.
Dan Hodges graduated from Andrew Jackson High School in Jacksonville, Florida, Truett McConnell Junior College, Mercer University, New Orleans Baptist Seminary with Doctoral Studies at Golden Gate Seminary.
Having received God's call to the Ministry at age 16, Brother Dan's pastoring ministry span a time period of about 40 years. His student church was Smyna Baptist Church (Deep Step). After graduating from Seminary, Brother Dan pastored the following churches: Northside Baptist Church (Milledgeville), Woodbury Baptist Church (Woodbury, Georgia), First Baptist Church (Perry, Georgia), Peachtree Baptist Church (Atlanta), Raleigh Baptist Church (Memphis, Tennessee), and First Baptist Church, (Albany, Georgia). In 1986, the Rev. Dan Hodges became Director of Missions in the Washington Baptist Association and helped direct programs for 42 churches. Being deeply committed to missions locally and around the world, he organized mission teams and was a vital part of the creation and organization of Coast for Christ Ministries (CFCM) in Ghana, West Africa. Retiring in 2001 from the full-time Director of Missions position gave him more time to devote to CFCM in Ghana, as well as pastor a wonderful church, Jewell Baptist Church. In the Rev. Dan Hodges' teachings, preaching and evangelistic outreach experience, one of his favorite sayings was, "Find a need and fill it! See a hurt and heal it!" He believed that! He did just that since his age of 16!
The celebration of the Rev. Hodges' life will be Tuesday afternoon at 2 p.m., First Baptist Church, Milledgeville. Dr. Edward Enim, Ghana, West Africa will be officiating.
If you so choose, in lieu of flowers, you may give to the Coast for Christ Ministries in memory of the Rev. Dan Hodges. Address: 187 Lakecrest Drive, Milledgeville, GA 31061.
Moores Funeral Home & Crematory has charge of arrangements.
