Mildred Sweat Johnson Obituary

Dublin - Mildred Sweat Johnson, 89, passed away Monday, June 16, 2025, in Dublin, Georgia. Graveside services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, June 21 at Baldwin Memorial Gardens Cemetery with Dr. David Carr officiating.

Ms. Johnson was born on April 4, 1936, in Washington County, Georgia to the late Wesley and Irene Armour Sweat. She was predeceased by her husband, Harvey Johnson, brothers JW Sweat, Robert Sweat, Bernard Sweat and Sylvester Sweat; sisters, Lutrell Pounds and Myrtice Sweat.

Mildred lived and worked in Washington County until 1992 when she and Harvey moved to Milledgeville. However, Harvey died shortly thereafter, and Mildred didn't know what to do with herself, as she was not one for idleness. God answered prayers when Buddy and Julie Madden asked her to come run the kitchen at their daycare. She loved that job and all the children she interacted with daily. She would work there all day and then she returned home to trim her shrubbery and mow her lawn with a push lawn mower. She refused to have a riding mower and insisted that no one else would cut her grass as "straight" as she did. She remained employed at the daycare until 2018 when, at age 82, she moved to Dublin with Patsy to live out her days in security and surrounded by love. She was a force of nature and her work ethic is a model for the ages. She approached all things large and small with strength and determination that she encouraged in her daughter and grands.

She is survived by her daughter, Patsy Carr (Freddie) of Dublin; grandsons, Dr. David Carr (Maria) of Rochester, New York and Blake Carr (Brooke) of Dexter; great grands, Isaiah Carr, Joshua Carr, Maclairah Carr and Walker Carr; sisters, Marie Tuten, Grace Prosser, Marilyn Lee and brother William Sweat.

The family extends a special thank you to Georgia Hospice for the care and compassion they showed during this difficult time. Also, a very special thank you to our very own guardian angel, Vickie Carr.

The family will receive family and friends Saturday from 10 until 11 a.m. at Moores Funeral Home.
