Melvin Hurt, Sr., 87, of Milledgeville, passed away on April 14, 2020. A graveside service will be held on April 18, 2020, at the Wood Place Cemetery at noon.

A native of Putnam County, Melvin was born on April 20, 1932, to the late Lee Hurt and the late Lizzie Hurt. He is survived by his wife, Annie Inez Hurt of Milledgeville; daughters, Sandra (Faye) Lall of Fairhope, Ala., Anita Inez Updike of Mobile, Ala. and sons, Melvin Hurt Jr. of Savannah, and Lorenzo Hurt of Savannah. He is also survived by sisters, Alfreda Dennis of Milledgeville, Bennie Jones, Helen Roberts, Hazel Dennis of Atlanta and Gainelle Banks of Eatonton; brother, Acie Hurt of Pittsburg, Pa. and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other family and friends.

Melvin was a dedicated leader and follower of the Vaughn's Chapel Baptist Church and served as a deacon and treasurer until his health began to decline. He was an amazing husband and "daddy" to his family and exemplified Christian values that reached innumerable people. His is a legacy of love, and his memory is cherished and loved by many.

Hurt's Funeral Home of Milledgeville and Eatonton was in charge of final arrangements.
