Milledgeville - Dr. Kelly Lowell Hern, 68, passed away on June 18, 2026. No services will be held.

Dr. Hern was born in Dayton, Ohio and had lived in Kentucky and North Carolina before relocating to Georgia where he completed his Ph.D. in neuropsychology. He had worked for the State of Georgia including Central State Hospital and Georgia Department of Corrections where he served as the clinical director for the Mental Health Department at Baldwin State Prison. He had enjoyed riding motorcycles, golf, bowling, reading, fishing, video games and boat rides. In addition, he really loved the holidays and enjoyed decorating, especially for Thanksgiving and Christmas. Pets were always a top priority for Dr. Hern, and he really enjoyed his cats. He was preceded in death by his mother, Ruth Frances Watkins Hern; father, Billie Lowell Hern; sister, Judy Taylor; nephew, Shawn Thompson; and great nephew, Neil Akers. He always said, "I hope I helped some, at least a little. I certainly tried."

He is survived by his sister, Vanessa Aitken of North Carolina; brother, Greg Thompson of Ohio; close cousin Gary Watkins; niece Hilary Aitken; nephew, Cameron Aitken; and a number of nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
