Jimmie L. Miller was born on Jan. 15, 1940 to the union of Iley and Justine Miller in Gary, Ind.
Jimmie graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1958. Upon graduation, he entered into the United States Air Force (1958-1963). While serving in the Air Force, he met and married Hortense Shanklin. Together, they had three children: Deon, Janet and Keith. For over 25 years, Jimmie devoted himself to serving as a wonderful husband and father to his family in Westbury, N.Y.
Following his service in the Air Force, Jimmie was employed with the Long Island Press and he soon had the opportunity to join the largest newspaper on Long Island, Newsday. He worked as a supervisor for 20 years. In 1988, Jimmie became an entrepreneur and started his own business, One Stop Deli & Grocery, in Amityville, N.Y. At this time, he met and employed Mrs. Ann (Johnson) Miller, and their working friendship ultimately led to marriage. Jimmie and Ann moved to Georgia in 1993, and Jimmie became a stepfather to Ann's two children, Howard Avent III and Tonia (Avent) Small.
In his lifetime, Jimmie has successfully launched many businesses. Although he retired in 2005, he continued to work and served as a part-time employee at Reynolds Lake Oconee Golf Resort up until the time of his death. He accepted Christ as his Savior at a young age, and he was a member of Free Gift Baptist Church.
Jimmie was called home on Sunday, Aug. 9, 2020. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. Iley and Justine Miller.
He leaves to cherish his memory: his devoted wife, Ann Miller of Eatonton; three children, Deon Miller (Florida), Janet Ranson (Alabama), and Keith Miller (Florida); two stepchildren, Howard Avent III of Morrow, Ga. and Tonia Small (Leslie) of Douglasville, Ga.; four grandchildren, Zhanea, Briana, Kynnedi and Londyn; a great-granddaughter, Kenya; three beloved sisters, Pauline Thomas (Ralph) of Crete, Ill., Juanita Morgan of Gary, Ind., and Barbara Turner of Gary, Ind.; four brothers, Curtis Miller (Ivy) of Portland, Ore., James Miller (Yvette) of Merriville, Ill., William Miller of Gary, Ind., and Eldrige Miller (Marion) of Gary, Ind. and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
