Jestina Mae Irby
Jestina Mae "Pretty Brown" (Butts) Irby, 89, of Brooklyn, New York, passed away on Friday, Nov. 22, 2019 at Kings County Hospital in Brooklyn, New York. She was born in Milledgeville on July 7, 1930 to the late Ernest Sr. and Nancy (Marshall) Butts.

She graduated from Eddy High School in Milledgeville in 1948 and moved to Brooklyn in 1950. She was a devout servant of Jehovah for over four decades and a member of the Eastern Parkway Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses, continuing to do field service until weeks before her passing.
Jestina was not blessed with children of her own but she leaves to cherish her memory nephews, Milton Rice and James Butts, Jr.; nieces, Linda Butts Miller (Leroy), Evelyn Butts Elam, Christie Turner Hicks (Joseph), Nancy Butts, Evelina Butts, Martha Archer, Ruby Steward, and Mary Beaty. She also leaves a special "niece", Carol Shimoda-Bloom and a special friend, Mr. Wheeler Smith. In addition, she leaves a host of great and great-great nieces and nephews and one great-great-great nephew, and several cousins. She was predeceased by siblings, Alvin, Joseph, Naomi Butts Williams, Ernest, Jr., James, Dorothy Butts Lewis, Minnie Moore, Ernestine Austin, and Mamie Freeman. She was also predeceased by nephews, David Webb, Bunnie Lewis, Ira Williams Jr. and niece Brenda Butts Garrett.

Memorial services will take place at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 30 at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 1032 Carroll St., Brooklyn, NY. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to jw.org or to your local food pantry.
