Milledgeville, GA - On Monday, July 27, 2026, Almighty God in his infinite wisdom gently closed the eyes of Jennifer Slater, as she entered into eternal rest at Emory Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia.

Jennifer Slater was born on Sept. 10, 1952 in Quitman, Georgia to the late Bertha Holland Slater and Richard P. Slater Jr. Jennifer was an only child. She was also the pride and joy of her parents. Mrs. Slater treated Jennifer as the most special and important part of her world.

At an early age, Jennifer dedicated her life to Jesus Christ, her personal Lord and Savior. Growing up in Milledgeville, Georgia, her faith was nourished at Wesley Chapel AME Church where she attended together with her mother.

Jennifer was a fun and loving child, cared for, and nurtured in a way that helped her to realize her full life's potential. Mrs. Slater, a single parent working a demanding job, wanted to provide a stable, continuous education for Jennifer. Therefore, she enrolled Jennifer in an All Girls Academy. It was a boarding school that reinforced academic excellence, college preparation, and independence building of life skills. Later, Jennifer attended Harvard University and received her degree in Business Administration/Management. Her managerial skills landed her a management position with GAP Department Stores in Durham, North Carolina.

Jennifer was in the prime of life when she suffered a brain aneurysm which imposed some strict physical limitations on her. From 1986 to the time of her demise, Jennifer was confined to a nursing home facility called, Britthaven of Outer Banks Nursing Care Facility in Nags Head, North Carolina, Riverside Nursing Home and James B. Craig Nursing Center in Milledgeville, Georgia, and Georgia Regional Hospital in Decatur, Georgia.

Though her body slowed down, her thoughts stayed sharp and her determination never stopped. For a time, her hands and imagination stayed busy painting pictures, crocheting, doing simple computer tasks, and going shopping. Jennifer possessed a warrior's spirit that refused to be defeated by life's unexpected circumstances.

Jennifer was preceded in death by her parents; maternal grandparents, Lewis Holland and Rosa Leonard Holland; paternal grandparents, Richard Peter Slater, Sr., and Essie Edwards Slater. Cherished memories shall forever linger in the hearts of beloved family and friends. She is survived by her cousins, Edna Collins and Edward Collins, Jr., both of Quitman, Georgia; Barbara Collins (Stockner) of Naples, Florida, and Jacqueline Collins (Thomas) of Fort Myers, Florida. A devoted friend/Godsister, Ms. Miranda Ellison, and a host of other cousins and friends.

Visitation will be Friday, July 31, 2026 at the Stevens-McGhee Chapel from 3 to 7 p.m.

Graveside services will be Saturday, Aug. 1, 2026 at 11 a.m. at North End Cemetery in Quitman, Ga. Stevens-McGhee Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
