Milledgeville, Georgia - Janice A. Hardy, 95, died Oct. 30, 2024, at her home in Milledgeville, Georgia. The body will be cremated. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 7 at St. Stephens Episcopal Church with Father David Probst officiating. Burial will be in the columbarium in St. Stephens Episcopal Church.

Born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, she was the daughter of the late Milford and Grace Allen Hardy. She graduated with B.A. and M.A. degrees from Louisiana State University and attended Ringling School of Art.

Prior to moving to Milledgeville in 1965 to teach art at Georgia College & State University, she taught art at Limestone College in Gaffney, S. Carolina for nine years. She retired in 1995 as associate professor of art at GCSU.

An active preservationist, she was a member of the Georgia Trust for Historic Preservation and served two terms on their Board of Trustees. She served two terms as a member of the State Review Board of the National Register of Historic Places. With the late Anne Harman, she researched 96 Georgia courthouses and placed them on the National Register of Historic Places in a multiple nomination. She instituted an Architecture Seminar at GCSU, which ran for 21 summers. In Milledgeville, she was a member of the board of Main Street and Allied Arts.

An active member of St. Stephens Episcopal Church, she served on the Vestry for two terms, was junior and senior warden, a member of the Altar Guild, and an usher.

With the Rev. Dr. Harold Lawrence, she abstracted material for Milledgeville newspapers that resulted in nine volumes on Milledgeville Methodism for 1806-1914.

She is survived by several cousins.
