Dr. Ginger Rudeseal Carter died from complications of breast cancer July 8 in Milledgeville, Georgia, at the age of 67.

She was the daughter of the late Leamon and Molly Rudeseal of Atlanta. She is survived by her husband, Blanton Carter, and her son, Jeffrey Carter.

Ginger earned a bachelor's degree in journalism from Georgia State University, a master's degree from Auburn University, and a PhD from the University of Southern Mississippi. She won many academic awards and taught journalism at Northeast Louisiana University. Along the way, she wrote for a number of newspapers and worked in public relations for the Anti-Defamation League.

In 1996 she and her family moved to Milledgeville, Georgia, where she taught journalism at Georgia College & State University until she retired. She was an inspirational teacher and was much loved by her students. She followed their lives and careers with enthusiasm.

Ginger was a prominent member of several organizations dedicated to higher education. The Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication honored her by naming their annual teacher of the year award after her.

A memorial service will be announced at a later date.
