Fannie Maxine  Murphy
Mrs. Maxine Rogers Byrd Murphy, 97, passed away on Thursday, March 12, 2020. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 14, 2020, in the Milledgeville First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Mac Enfinger officiating. Interment will follow at 3 p.m. in Roberta City Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the church from 10:30 a.m. until the service hour.

Mrs. Murphy was a native of Elmore County, Alabama. She was the daughter of the late Rev. H.E. and Lenora Rogers. She was a retired banker with over 25 years service having worked with The Bank of Ft. Valley, Cumberland County Bank, and First Federal Savings and Loan. She loved to travel, dance, cook, sing in the choir, spending time with her family and friends. She was also well known for her famous caramel cake. She touched many lives with her beautiful smile. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Mercer Eugene Byrd; second husband, John R. Murphy; son, Dwight Slade Byrd; parents, and five other siblings. She was a member of Milledgeville First United Methodist Church.
She is survived by her son, Eddie Byrd (Lu) of Lake Oconee; daughter, Nancy Buchanan (Tonny) of Milledgeville; daughter-in-law, Britt Owen Byrd of Milledgeville; grandchildren, Ryan Frier, Justin Seymour, both of Milledgeville, Cory Seymour (Kathryn) of Madison, Adam Buchanan (Marissa) of Knoxville, Tenn., Paige Buchanan of Clanton, Ala., Whitney Joris Whitlock (Ben) of Charlotte, N.C., and Maggie Joris Wiles (John) of Atlanta; great grandchildren, Kaitlyn Frier, Jenna Seymour, Corbin Seymour, Eliza Kate Seymour, Lydia Buchanan, Eva Buchanan, Smith and Lily Whitlock and Louise Wiles; and sister, Bobbie Jean Harlow.
