Milledgeville, Georgia - Mrs. Carrie George Cox, 91, surrounded by her children, went home to be with the Lord on Sept. 3, 2024. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, Sept. 5, 2024 at 3 p.m. in Northridge Christian Church with burial to follow in Baldwin Memorial Gardens.
The family will gather at the home of her daughter Joni Cox Smith at 153 PA Johns Road. Formal visitation with friends on Wednesday at Williams Funeral Home from 6 to 8 p.m.
Mrs. Cox was a native and lifelong resident of Milledgeville and the daughter of the late William H. George and the late Annie Hawkins George. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Harris Cox; daughters, Jackie Cox Hutcheson, Janice Cox Hutcheson; and granddaughter, Amanda Hutcheson Hall. She was a faithful servant of her church Northridge Christian Church (formerly Hardwick Christian Church) where she served many roles. Singing was her passion guiding her to lead both the adult and junior choirs and together with Lynn Deason, started the Christeens. Mrs. Cox often reminded her family, "Do not go to bed angry," which was a faithful testament to her devotion to family and the Lord. Mrs. Cox had worked for J&M Tank Lines, Georgia Military College and retired from Arcilla Mining as an accountant.
She is survived by her son-in-love Jack Hutcheson; daughter, Joni Smith (Ted); sons, Curtis Cox (Vicky), Carl Cox, Craig Cox (Ellen); grandchildren, Shannon Hutcheson, Corey Hutcheson (Tessie), Kevin Smith (April), Ashley Smith (Mandy), Garrett Smith (Eliza), Shane Cox, Carli Cox, Amanda Gladdin (Marty), Jack Cox (Danielle), April Hutcheson Smith (Carroll), Amber Hutcheson Simmons (Allen), Averi Hutcheson; 30 great grandchildren; one great great grandchild and many nieces and nephews.
