Mr. James "Jim" Turner, age 76, passed away on Sunday, February 26, 2017. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 AM on Tuesday, March 7, 2017 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father Young officiating. Interment will follow in Heritage Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends on Monday, March 6, 2017 at Williams Funeral Home from 6 PM to 8 PM.
Mr. Turner was a native of West Virginia and lived in Milledgeville for the past 28 years. He received Bachelor's and Master's degrees from Georgia College & State University (GCSU). He taught History at GCSU and was the Curator of the Old Governor's mansion for over 25 years. He oversaw the multi-million dollar restoration of the mansion, bringing it back to its original pre Civil War glory. He was a devout Catholic and was very active at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. He was very caring to animals and very devoted to his family. He was preceded in death by his lifelong business partner and companion Daniel Trexler; parents, Claude David and Thelma Page Turner; brothers Harry and Robert Turner; sisters Doris Turner Brudon, Ruth Turner Micros, Freida Turner Spear, Margaret Turner Feagin; and niece Peggy Ann Barnette.
He is survived by brothers Thomas Turner of Broadway, NC and Richard Turner of Tallahassee, FL; nephews Robert Bridges of Canton, GA, Gary Barnette of Melbourne, FL, Mark Barnette of Yulee, FL and Jeffrey Turner of Charlotte, NC; niece Rebecca Turner Ainsworth of Winterville, NC and several grand nieces and nephews.
