Ernest A.'s Story
Byron- Ernest A. Cowan, 76, died Monday, April 10, 2017. A funeral service with military honors will be held at 2:00PM on Friday, April 14, 2017, in the Chapel of Rooks Funeral Home, 109 West White Road in Byron. Family will greet friends beginning at 1:00PM until service time.
Born in Washington, DC, to the late Marion Earl Cowan and Virginia Rebecca Achord Cowan, Mr. Cowan was raised in Macon and graduated from Georgia College in 1972 with a degree in sociology. He retired from civil service at Robins Air Force Base in 2002 where he had worked in the C-130 Tool Crib. He was retired from the Air Force Reserves and after retirement chose to deliver parts for the Warner Robins Bumper To Bumper.
Survivors include his wife, Joyce Cowan; his children, Melissa "Lisa" Smith (Pete Lenaers) and Jason Cowan (Amy) all of Savannah; grandchildren, Nikki Smith and Cody Cowan, both of Savannah; great grandchildren, Brayden and Brantley; step children, James E. Keen (Brenda), Brian R. Keen, Sherrie M. Keen, and Derick Simmons, all of Byron; step grandchildren, Michael A. Lynn, Cody C. Moss, Johnathan Keen, Kristina Keen, Jasmine Simmons, and Alexander Simmons; brother, Kingman Holley Cowan (Sunda Coleman) of Milledgeville; sister, Rebecca Cowan (Sharon Velez) of Macon; niece, Karen Gilbert (Patrick) of Seattle, WA; and many various great-great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, P. O. Box 758517, Topeka, Kansas 66675. Rooks Funeral Home in Byron is in charge of arrangements.
