Willie Lee's Story

On January 5, 1952, Mr. Willie Lee Griswold was born to the late Mr. Johnny Griswold and Mrs. Beatrice Hitchcock Griswold-King in Milledgeville, Georgia.
Mr. Griswold entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, June 14, 2017 at his residence. Funeral services will be held Monday, June 19th at 11:00AM from the Green Pasture Baptist Church, Milledgeville. Interment will follow in the Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Milledgeville.
Mr. Griswold grew up in Queens, New York and graduated from Springfield Gardens High School in 1971. Upon graduation he received a full basketball scholarship to GC&SU, Milledgeville. Where he currently holds the record for one of the top three-point percentages in a season.
While attending GC&SU, he met and married the love of his life, Ms. Deneece Burney, in 1972. He later joined the United States Army, upon exiting the military, he became employed with the Youth Development Campus (YDC) and within ten years on earned ranking as Captain over security and retired in 2008 after thirty years of service. He enjoyed retirement by supporting his children in their athletic and academic careers, spending time with family, playing basketball, travelling, fishing, and enjoying his grandchild.
He will be cherished in memory by his wife: Mrs. Deneece Griswold; three children: Mr. Shaun Griswold, Ms. Teshia Griswold, and Mr. Shavon Griswold; mother: Mrs. Beatrice King; siblings: Mrs. Ernestine Parks and Mr. David Griswold; one beautiful granddaughter: Maleena Griswold as well as brother-in-laws: Joseph Burney, Jr., Timothy Burney, David Burney, Allen Wayne Burney, Jessie Carswell, Freddie Parks; sister-in-laws: Josephine Burney, Gracie Carswell, Felicia Burney, Robbie Burney, Dorothy Griswold. He also leaves behind his lifelong best friends, Mr. Harold Johnson and Mr. Lester Simmons. Slaters Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.
