Patricia Lee Smith's Story
Patricia Lee Smith Byrd, 80, passed away, Wednesday, Jan. 17, 2018 after a brief illness. She was born July 22, 1937, in Mansfield, GA, to the late William Ernest and Mary Shinholster Smith. Pat moved to Macon and there met the love of her life and husband of 62 years, the late Bobby Shell Byrd. They were married June 1, 1955.
Mrs. Byrd attended Norman College where she graduated with honors in 1963. She continued her education at Mercer University graduating in 1965 with a BA in English. Though her life was devoted to her children, Patricia completed a Master's Degree in Psychology in 1985 from Georgia College and State University. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Milledgeville, several book clubs, and dedicated to animal rescue.
Patricia is survived by her son, Rodney Byrd; daughter, Marde (Glenn) Ray; sister, JoAnn Smith Colston; grandchildren, Matt (Taylor) Ray, Jared Ray, and Rachael Ray; great-grandchildren, Abigail and Lily Ray; and she will be missed by those faithful friends she leaves behind: Doris and Doyle Boyd; caregivers, Erma Hall, Mary Ritchie, and Tonya Wilson. A Celebration of life will be held at the Black Springs Baptist Social Hall, Saturday, Jan. 27, 2018 from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m.
