My deepest sympathy to the Gonzalez and Blackwell family. Mrs. Maxine will truly be missed. She was a women who helped many. My family was one of many. Just knowing what a great woman she was, I'm praying God will continue to comfort the family and ease your hearts somehow.

The last time I had my hair done, I found myself sitting next to a Baldwin County icon—Mrs. Maxine Blackwell—the county’s solicitor general. You see Mrs. Blackwell was a regular customer at Another World Hair Salon—where she was much loved and admired by her hair dresser, John. I didn’t know who she was at first, but as it goes in most beauty salons, you overhear folks talking and you put two and two together. When I figured out who she was, I knew I had to introduce myself—I had heard so many stories from friends and family about how Mrs. Blackwell had helped them or treated them fairly and respectfully; Mrs. Blackwell achieved her goal as a good solicitor general in her pra...ctice of restorative justice. One family member in particular—who is very close to my heart—was placed on a positive trajectory for a successful life by Mrs. Blackwell. She helped orchestrate what would become an amazing life with a beautiful family. I shared with Mrs. Blackwell this success story—I showed her family pictures on FB. She beamed with pride; she smiled and she teared up a bit as she thanked me very much for sharing with her this story—one of many that will be shared in the days to come. We have lost someone who made the world a better place.
God bless Mrs. Maxine Blackwell and her family.

I will never forget Maxine's kindness and concern for me during a very troubled time in my life. Often, during the years since, I longed to tell her how her interest in me at that pivotal time gave me strength and courage--and still does. I am so grateful to have known her and so sorrowful that I didn't tell her so. I know she has similarly touched the lives of countless other women in Baldwin county. Our loss is great. She will be widely mourned and missed.
