Joseph Marquette McMillan, Sr., 64, passed away Sunday, Dec. 31, 2017. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 4, at First Baptist Church with the Rev. Jerry Bradley and Dr. Gary Abbott officiating. Burial will follow at Memory Hill Cemetery.
Joe was born in Greenville, SC but had made his home in Milledgeville. He was a member of the Baldwin High School class of 1971 and attended Georgia College. He worked with the Central State Hospital Music Therapy Department and retired with 34 years of service. Joe was active with the Boy Scouts and was an Eagle Scout. He was the Scoutmaster of the Boy Scout Troop 315, and served for over 50 years in Scouting. He was a member of First Baptist Church where he was a member of the church choir and played the trumpet, bass and drums for many years.
Survivors include his wife, Carol Duncan McMillan of Milledgeville; his sons, Joseph "Jody" Marquette McMillan, Jr. (Stephanie) and James Duncan McMillan (Sarah Beth) both of Milledgeville; grandchildren, Joseph Marquette McMillan, III, Jacob Kirk McMillan, Anna Caroline McMillan, James Duncan "J.D." McMillan, Jr., Madeline Elizabeth McMillan; brothers, John "Mac" McMillan (Rita) of Snellville, Edward McMillan (Pat) of Auburn, GA; stepbrothers, Charles Youngblood of Baton Rouge, LA, Marc Youngblood (Renee) of Stockton, CA; two step-sisters, Carolyn Story (Dr. Carl) of Canton and Mary Sinclair (John) of Milledgeville; special friends, Doris and Terry Mann of Nashville, GA.
The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6 until 7:30 p.m. at Moores Funeral Home.
