John Henry's Story
Doctor John Henry Turner age 76, passed away Monday, April 3, 2017. Services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Friday, April 7, at New Vision Church of God in Christ. Burial will be at Ft. Richardson National Cemetery in Ft. Richardson, Alaska.
Doctor John Henry Turner was born and raised in Chicago, Illinois to late Mrs. Rogelina Turner. At the age of 18 he joined the US Army traveling many places; in 1964 he was stationed in Alaska along with his family.
Pastor Turner and Betty Turner left Alaska in 1998 and they started the ministry New Vision COGIC in 2003. Pastor Turner built a new addition to New Vision Church for the purpose of training how to seek employment, how to retain a job, a vocational exploration program, tutoring, a support group for ex-offenders, food bank and counseling.
He is survived by: Wife Betty Turner and his children Pamela De Grate (son-in-law Darnelle DeGrate), John Turner II, Edward Turner, Patricia Turner, Oscar Wilson Jr. and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
A Wake services will be held Thursday, April 6, from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at New Vision Church of God in Christ.
