John Ed


John Ed "Sonny" Gholson, 84, of Milledgeville, passed away Thursday, May 9, 2019. A native of Milledgeville, Sonny was born on Oct. 27, 1934, to the late Edward Francis Gholson and the late Carrie Mozelle Burgamy Gholson. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a son, Ronny Gholson.
Sonny was a GMC High School graduate and worked at J.P. Stevens for several years before becoming the owner/operator of Sonny's Texaco. After leaving the service station business, he went to work at Rheem Manufacturing, where he became a receiving clerk, and worked for approximately 20 years. Upon retiring from Rheem, Sonny worked as a funeral attendant at Williams Funeral Home, and enjoyed traveling with his wife, Jane, in their motor home. Sonny was a member of Northside Baptist Church, and belonged to the Civil Defense and the National Guard. Sonny was also a Mason, having been a member of Benevolent Lodge No. 3 of Milledgeville.
Sonny is survived by his wife, Jane B. Gholson of Milledgeville; his daughter, Kathy Patrick (Darrell); his daughter-in-law, Vicki Gholson; sons, Greg Garnto (Teri) and Steve Garnto (Carol); six grandchildren; and four great grandchildren.
Funeral services for Sonny Gholson will be conducted Monday, May 13, 2019, at 2 p.m. in the Chapel of Williams Funeral Home of Milledgeville. Interment will follow in Baldwin Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the Williams Funeral Home on Monday, May 13, 2019, from 1 p.m. until the service hour.
The family has asked that those who wish make memorial contributions to: Compassus Hospice, 1100 Northside Crossing, Macon, Ga. 31210.
