Jesse Murray's Story
Jesse Murray Taylor Jr., 78, left this earth on Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2018, to join those who passed before him. A celebration of his life will be held on Monday, Feb. 5, at 11 a.m. at the Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
Mr. Taylor was born Jan. 17, 1940 in Wilkes County, Georgia, the only child of Jesse Murray Taylor Sr., and Carrie Edwill Sumpter Taylor, both of whom predeceased him in death.
Mr. Taylor was one of the first Navy SEALS having previously been in UDT (Under Demolition Team) Twelve and a Frogman. He proudly served his country until his honorable discharge March 1963. He then became a locomotive engineer and retired after 38 years of service from Norfolk Southern.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Frances Marie Williams Taylor; three children: Elizabeth Taylor Newberry (Larry), Frances Taylor Vorce (Ted) and Walter Murray Taylor (Lisa). He was also blessed with many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
