Mrs. Frances Ward Bird, 73, passed away Saturday, July 29, 2017 after a long battle with cancer at the Ogeechee Area Hospice Inpatient Facility surrounded by her loving family. Mrs. Bird, a native of Bainbridge, graduated from Bainbridge High School in 1962. She graduated from Georgia Southern College in 1966 with a bachelor's of education degree and obtained her master's of education degree from Georgia College and State University. Mrs. Bird retired after 27 years of teaching mathematics throughout both the U.S. and Europe. She enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, travelling, spending time at the beach, and with her grandbabies.
Survivors include her husband of 47 years, Graham Bird, Ellijay; two daughters, Ashley Osborne (Aaron), Atlanta, and Allison Liggin (Len), Americus; three grandsons, Graham Liggin, Logan Osborne and Mason Osborne; a sister, Linda Maynard, Greensboro, N.C.; a sister-in-law, Marion Bird Martin, from Register; four nieces; one nephew and many cousins also survive.
A memorial service and internment will be held Sept. 24 at 2 p.m. at Ivey Funeral Home in Bainbridge.
The family requests that memorial contributions may be made to Ogeechee Area Hospice, P.O. Box 531 Statesboro, Ga. 30459.
