Dorris Louise Garland's Story

Mrs. Dorris Louise Garland Brown departed this life Tuesday, Nov. 21, 2017, from her home. Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Friday, Nov. 24, 2017, at the chapel of Moores Funeral Home with the Rev. Freddy Hogg officiating. Interment will follow at Baldwin Memorial Gardens Cemetery with the Rev. John Miler officiating. Mrs. Brown was born Sept. 10, 1936, to Mr. Don Garland and Mrs. Texie Lucille Scoggins Garland. She was the second of three siblings. Dorris was the sister of both Larry and Craig Garland. She was preceded in death by her beloved brother Larry Garland. Dorris graduated from Calhoun High School in Calhoun in 1955. She moved to Atlanta upon the completion of high school where she attended a business school for girls. Dorris used her training much of her working career. She loved human resources work and retired from HR at Coliseum Hospital in 1994. Dorris was a wonderful mother of two children, Donna Lynne and Rolly Niel Jr. She was the wife of the love of her life, Rolly Niel Brown Sr., whom she married Sept. 1, 1956. She was the grandmother of two children, Kyle Justin Hinton and Hannah Christina Brown. Dorris was a lady that believed in loving people. She welcomed into her life all individuals no matter how different from herself. She taught her children to do the same. Dorris was a woman of great wisdom, and if one was lucky enough to call her friend then that one was truly blessed. Mrs. Dorris is survived by her husband, Rolly Niel Brown Sr., Ivey; two children, Donna Lynne (Jeffery Todd) Hinton, Ivey and Rolly Niel (Gail) Brown Jr., Milledgeville; two grandchildren, Kyle Justin Hinton, Ivey, and Hannah Christine Brown, Gordon; one brother, Craig Clarence Garland; and a host of other relatives and friends.
