Dorothy Darby Wharton, 95, of Greenville, S.C. passed away on June 9, 2019, in Milledgeville. She was predeceased by her husband of 53 years, James Hopkins Wharton; her parents, Edward Darby and Lena Coker Darby, of Belton, S.C.; and twin sister, Anna Smith Rhodes.
She is survived by her son, James Darby Wharton (Madelyn), of Milledgeville, and daughter, Carolyn Wharton Garrison (Gene) of Warrenton, Va. Four surviving granddaughters are Tiffany Wharton Davis (Shannon) of Milledgeville, Elizabeth Garrison Kubala, Amy Garrison Diaw, and Mary Ann Garrison Heiskanen. Surviving great grandchildren are Zachary, Joshua, Lindsey, Sali, Gabriel, Alec and Adam.
Local funeral arrangements are being coordinated by Williams Funeral Home and burial will be held in Greenville, S.C.
Dorothy loved her church family, especially members of her Sunday school class. Memorials may be made in her memory to Laurel Baptist Church, 2331 Laurens Road, Greenville, S.C. 29607 or to Eatonton Presbyterian Church, 307 N. Madison Ave., Eatonton, Ga. 31024.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Fellowship Home at Meriwether for the excellent care of our beloved mother.
Services will be held at Mackey Funerals and Cremations at Woodlawn Memorial Park, 1 Pine Knoll Drive, Greenville, S.C., 29609 on Thursday, June 13, 2019. Visitation at 11 a.m.; service at noon; and reception at 1 p.m.
Memorial donations may be made in her memory to Laurel Baptist Church, 2331 Laurens Road, Greenville, S.C. 29607
