Charlotte Meadows's Story

Charlotte Meadows Gandy, aged 80, passed away at Emory University Hospital on Wednesday, May 17, 2017.
The family will receive friends at Moores Funeral Home on Sunday, May 21, from 2 PM until 3 PM. A memorial service will be held in the funeral home chapel at 3 pm, immediately following the visitation. Burial will be in Magnolia Cemetery in Hartsville, SC.
Mrs. Gandy was born in Atlanta, Georgia, and lived in Milledgeville since 1972. She graduated from Druid Hills High School, attended Duke University for one year, and completed her degree at Emory University. She was a member of Alpha Chi Omega sorority, and helped start the chapter at Emory. Upon college graduation, she taught math and physics at Druid Hills High School.
Mrs. Gandy got involved where she saw a need, having supported Harriet's Closet, the Rape Crisis Center and Tallulah Falls School. Her favorite social activities were the Civic Woman's Club and the Bridge Club. Her first priority was her family, having attended countless sporting activities and school events with her children. She loved and supported her husband, and single-handedly ran the household until her health declined.
She is predeceased by her parents, E.D. and Pearl Meadows, birth-mother Minerva Meadows, and husband, Al Gandy. She is survived by a sister Carole Walker, children Ed Gandy (Dee), Allison Johnson (Howie), Elizabeth Gandy and Howard Gandy, and several nephews. Surviving grandchildren are Kathleen Johnson, Connor Johnson, Sydney Johnson, Ryan Gandy and Kara Gandy.
