Captain James L.'s Story
Captain James L. Council age 85, passed away Wednesday, May 3, 2017. Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 6, at the chapel of Moores Funeral Home. Entombment will follow at Baldwin Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Council was a native of Wilkinson County but had made his home in Milledgeville. He worked with J.P. Stevens and owned Milledgeville Janitorial Service for many years. Mr. Council later worked and retired from the Georgia Department of Corrections and was a member of the Georgia Peace Officers Association. He was a veteran of the United States Army and a member of Macedonia Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his father and mother Mirabeau and Ima Smith Council and his wife Judyth Kemp Council. Mr. Council enjoyed hunting squirrels, rabbits and quail. He was a big sports enthusiast and enjoyed watching basketball, spending time with his family and listening to country music.
Survivors include two sons, Scott Council (Yvonne) and Alan Council, his daughter Karen Evans (Marty) all of Milledgeville, a brother M.H. Council (Dot) of Cartersville, 4 grandchildren, Ashley Evans (Krystal), Amber Kennedy (Adam), Lauren Council and Kiersten Council and a step granddaughter Annie Smith.
The family will receive friends Saturday from 10:00 until 11:00 a.m. at Moores Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Macedonia Baptist Church or to St. Jude Children's Hospital.
