Betty Sumerford Kickliter, 92, of Tifton, passed away Sunday, Aug. 13, 2017. The family will receive visitors at Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals at 420 Love Ave. in Tifton, Thursday, Aug. 17 at 1 p.m. The Funeral service will follow at Bowen-Donaldson at 2 p.m. with burial to follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery in Tifton.
Mrs. Kickliter was born June 21, 1925, in Desoto to the late William Harold Sumerford and the late Sidney Bedingfield Sumerford.
Mrs. Kickliter, a lifelong educator in Georgia public schools, graduated from Georgia State College for Women (now Georgia College & State University) in Milledgeville. She taught in the public school systems in Lyons, Tifton and Milledgeville.
On Aug. 24, 1947, Mrs. Kickliter married Ralph Edward Kickliter, who predeceased her in 2005. She is survived by her son, Hal Kickliter of Atlanta, and daughter, Carole Kickliter Wiles (Kirk) of Huntsville, Ala. Survivors also include her grandsons, Villie Kirkpatrick "Patrick" Wiles III of Murfreesboro, Tenn. and Philip Kickliter Wiles (Rachel) of Huntsville, Ala. and great grandchildren, Eleanor Elizabeth Wiles, Emerson Leigh Wiles and Asa Ellison Wiles, all of Huntsville, Ala.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Maple Court Senior Residence for the care Betty received during the 15 years she resided there. In addition, the family wishes to thank all the caregivers of Georgia Living Senior Care who took care of Betty during the last year.
