Our loving Mother and Grandmother, Sister and Cherished Friend, Barbara O'Shields Moses passed away due to complications of cancer March 4, 2107 in Fairfax, VA. She was surrounded by her children, Edwin Moses Jr. (Linda) of Tucson, AZ, Laura Moses Sterrett (Douglas) of Martin, TN, Anne Moses Bingham (Michael) of Mequon, WI and Cati Moses Dobson (Ken) of Fairfax Station, VA.
Born 1930 in Atlanta, GA to Marshel and Betty O'Shields. Married for over 50 years to Edwin Davis Moses who preceded her in death.
Education and travel were very important to Barbara. She taught school for many years and instilled a strong value of education in her children. As an adult, she lived in Virginia, Germany, Alabama, Arizona, Georgia, and Tennessee.
While living in Germany, the family travelled extensively throughout Europe, sharing countless educational experiences along with many fond memories.
She loved spending time with her 10 grandchildren: Emily and Vicki Moses; Tamara, John and Nicholas Sterrett; Brady and Bailey Bingham; and Eleanor, Brigid and Cleo Dobson. She loved visiting with them and was always supportive of their activities from Sports, to the Arts, to Scouting.
Barbara was quite active her entire life, right up to the end: walking a few miles every day; playing Bridge with her friends; knitting hats for babies of unwed mothers as well as family and friends; making beautiful Angel figurines; working on 1000- piece puzzles; reading books and challenging her mind with Sudoku and other word puzzles (She was a whiz at crossword puzzles!).
Besides her children and grandchildren she is survived by her sister Sarah O'Shields Ryals ( Jim)
There will be a Memorial Service held at the Fairmont Retirement Apartments in Manassas, VA on Friday, March 24 from 2-4 PM.
There will also be a service held in Milledgeville, GA at a later date to lay her remains to rest next to her husband (and lifelong fishing partner) Ed, our dear departed father and grandfather.
In Lieu of flowers, the family requests a contribution to the American Cancer Society or enjoying a dinner out with your family in memory of Barbara.
