Alvin  Burke


Alvin Edward Burke, 69, passed away on Monday, April 22, 2019. A native of Millen, he grew up in Waynesboro. He graduated from Waynesboro High School, attended Abraham Baldwin College, and graduated from Georgia Southern. He taught and coached in the Tattnall County Schools prior to a career as an insurance agent. He had made his home in Milledgeville for the past 42 years. He was a deacon at Hardwick Baptist Church. He loved to fish, go grocery shopping, cook, and go camping with his family.
He is survived by his wife, Gloria Fogal Burke of Milledgeville; daughter, Allison Merritt (Dan) of Barnesville; granddaughter, Merea Merritt of Barnesville; father, Talmadge Burke of Waynesboro; and sisters, Connie Judy (David) of Martinez; Elaine Lott of Graniteville, S.C.; Lynne Cone (Dean) of Hahira; sister-in-law, Elizabeth Burke of Laurinburg, N.C., and their families.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Wronnie Saxon Burke of Waynesboro and his brother, Tony Burke of Laurinburg, N.C.
The family will receive friends at Hardwick Baptist Church on Thursday, April 25, 2019, at 2 p.m. with the funeral service following at 3 p.m. Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the family for medical expenses.

I am sorry to learn of the passing of Alvin. We attended school and ABAC together. He was a leader on our football team and always was there to help anyone. He was of unquestionably good character and I am sure will be missed by everyone that had the pleasure of knowing him.
